The IT Industry in Alicante: Data & Insights

From tech and innovation up to AI and the gaming industry, Alicante has it all. The city is growing faster its digital industry and the progress is visible since an increasing number of companies are opening offices in Alicante or even change their main location. Especially Finnish companies are interested in investing in Alicante’s IT sector - according to cofounder magazine data, in Distrito Digital 70% of IT companies are Finnish and 30% Spanish.

Another important aspect is the academic one. Alicante’s Distrito Digital provides a collaborative environment between universities, young professionals and researchers, and tech companies. Moreover, in addition to collaboration opportunities, the tech center provides educational and training opportunities.

Also, Alicante is one of the best options for IT companies since Madrid and Barcelona are overwhelmed with tourists and the lifestyle is incredibly dynamic. With a digital park and an increasing number of companies and young professionals, Alicante is moving fast in its digital transformation.

Alicante is also attracting accelerators, incubators, and startup programs. According to incubatorlist, there is only one top accelerator in the region - Nestholma. However, Distrito Digital draws the attention of potential investors and may increase the number of startup programs in the city.

When it comes to salaries, the IT sector in Alicante is competing with Barcelona and Madrid. A software engineer gets slightly more than $116K/year, while an IT project manager is paid at $54K/year.

Overall, Alicante is one of the most promising cities in Spain, and it has huge potential in becoming one of the regional leaders in the tech industry.
