We brought Sulonya in to build and maintain RankMeTop, a pay-to-rank advertising leaderboard — every action on the site moves real money, so we needed a team that treated the payment layer as the product, not a feature bolted onto it. The clearest example came when we asked them to migrate our payment gateway. A less careful team would have swapped the SDK calls, tested a happy path, and called it shipped. Instead, they caught that the new provider flatly refuses to charge Indian-issued cards in a foreign currency - a restriction that would have silently locked a whole segment of our users out of checkout the day it went live, with no error message pointing at the real cause. Rather than patch around it, they built proper multi-currency support from the ground up: the correct currency is auto-selected from the customer's billing country, the customer can still override it, and our leaderboard's ranking logic stays fair in the background no matter what currency someone actually paid in. They brought the same level of care to things we hadn't even asked about. During a database schema change, they specifically avoided the "obvious" approach because it would have silently destroyed years of historical payment records on our next deploy. While they were in the payment code anyway, they noticed and fixed a bug where our tax invoices had been printing the wrong currency symbol regardless of what was actually charged - something none of us had caught. And on an earlier engagement, they didn't just take our word for a checkout bug; they reproduced it live in a real browser session first, traced it to its actual root cause, and only then proposed a fix. What I'd tell another founder evaluating them: they ask before making a risky call on your behalf instead of quietly deciding for you, and they consistently think about what could go wrong before it does rather than after.
