Start.cat is a small development studio based in Alella, just north of Barcelona. We design, build and maintain mobile apps, web platforms and AI automation for organisations that need their software to be dependable: research institutes, hospitals, manufacturers and consumer brands.

Every project starts with the problem, not the technology. We map who will use the product, what has to happen on each screen and which data really matters, and only then choose the stack. Mobile apps are built native or hybrid for iOS and Android, and we take care of everything up to App Store and Google Play publication. On the web side we build portals, dashboards and back-offices that work together with the apps. More recently we help companies put AI to work: assistants that answer questions from internal documents, agents that read and classify incoming paperwork, and workflows that remove repetitive manual tasks.

Health and research is where our track record runs deepest. For the Hospital del Mar Research Institute we built Cohorte ARCA, an app that follows a cohort of children and teenagers with asthma month after month, and Your Decision, an app and team portal that helps patients with localised prostate cancer compare treatments together with their doctors. For the Hôpital Robert-Debré in Paris we built D2M, a protein portion calculator for families living with inherited metabolic disorders. Outside healthcare, we built the Club RUBI loyalty app for construction professionals and the product catalogue app for Compo Expert.

We are deliberately small. The people who plan your project are the same people who write the code, publish it and keep it running afterwards, which is why several of our apps have stayed live and updated for years after launch. We work in Catalan, Spanish and English.
