The client has an existing web-based system that allows the registered users to login into the system and views their past medical records. The system also allows the users to search and find directions to nearby clinics. If required they can also book an appointment for the required

Customer Requirement

The client wanted to develop a mobile front end for this system. That is they wanted a mobile application developed so that the users can easily use the app to find the nearby clinics and get directions to that clinic. The user should be able to book an appointment in these clinics on the mobile platform. The client has requested a cross platform.

Challenges

The app has to be developed in such a way that it should run on different mobile platforms.

GUI Constraints :

Another challenge was to maintain consistent performance, look and feel for users across various mobile platforms.

Push notifications :

Notifications have to be provided to users even when the user is not active on the application

Brainfuel Solution

We developed the application using the Cordova framework. Cordova enables programmers to build applications for mobile devices using CSS3, HTML5, and JavaScript instead of relying on platform-specific APIs. Using this approach we could provide to all mobile platforms by creating corresponding apps using a wrapper. Using the Cordova framework, we could also make extensive use of native features like push notifications. Push notifications let your application notify a user of new messages or events even when the user is not actively using your application. The application allows the user to register themselves using their Medical ID and the profile is authenticated using the backend verification system. After the user is authenticated they can search for clinics nearby and obtain the directions to them. They can also book appointments in these clinics.

Results

With this solution, we could increase the availability of the solution as well as provide all the features right on the smartphones.
With add on features like push notifications, users get the benefit of the reminders at the right time, and because of this user engagement on the app increased
A hybrid approach has been considered with a simple user interface and thus we reduced the cost of feature additions or changes.
