If you’re considering hiring Grey Chain, don’t. Working with them was the worst experience I’ve had in 12 years of business. From the start, they overpromised and underdelivered, failing to meet even the most basic expectations outlined in our contract. 1. Lack of Communication & Transparency – They failed to follow through on their promised two-week sprints and built features and systems that I never signed off on. Communication was consistently unclear or nonexistent. 2. Ignored Design Approvals – I signed off on specific designs, yet what was implemented didn’t align with what was agreed upon. I repeatedly had to correct them, wasting time and energy. Their UX/UI process was so inadequate that I had to do much of the work myself. 3. Terrible Execution – They built a CMS without ever consulting me on my needs, resulting in a nonsensical system. Core functionalities were either broken, implemented poorly, or never built at all. They also built the app in Flutter, despite me specifically requesting React Native, something we had multiple discussions about. 4. Reckless and Unprofessional – Grey Chain never created a wireframe for the app, which—according to tech experts and even AI analysis—made the project nearly impossible to execute properly. Despite raising countless concerns, they refused to take accountability for their mistakes. They even removed my access to the code repository for weeks, never made me an owner, and only restored access after multiple requests. 5. Failure to Deliver a Usable Product – After months of work and paying $26,750 of a $35,000 contract, the app was still incomplete, riddled with issues, and essentially unusable. I had to hire a new team to rebuild it from scratch. 6. Refusal to Take Responsibility & Gaslighting – Throughout the project, Grey Chain consistently dismissed concerns, downplayed their mistakes, and refused to take accountability for anything. Their complete disregard for what was said on calls and in written communication was staggering. 7. Legal Analysis Confirmed Their Failures – We considered taking legal action and even informed them we were moving forward with it. However, their comfort with that reality made it clear that even if we won, they likely still wouldn’t pay. We had two Level 7 engineers at Amazon and two separate legal teams analyze a year’s worth of communication and files between our teams, and every single one of them concluded that Grey Chain was irresponsible and owed us our money back. 8. Their Dismissive Attitude Was Infuriating – I’ve never spoken to anyone the way I spoke to them on our final call because of their absolute refusal to acknowledge any wrongdoing. While I regret losing my temper on our last call (I have never been an angry person but wow did I lose my cool).... their complete disregard for everything we said made it impossible to remain composed. I assume this will be their response to this review as well, acting as if they did nothing wrong. I have built and scaled 2 other businesses, and have had many long-lasting relationships with domestic and overseas teams. I cannot think of a single other experience that is comparable to the one I have had with Grey Chain. While I am sure they are competent in some ways, as evidenced by their good reviews, I do not believe they are competent in mobile app building. Grey Chain is not just bad at what they do—they are reckless, unprofessional, and lack integrity. If you’re looking for a reliable development partner, stay far away from them, and I am happy to point you toward some great teams.
