- Great customer service and support. Industry standard on products. They have thousands of agents selling their products so one bad apple sometimes ruins the bunch. Strong financials
- I had originally posted a negative review of American Equity, but I'm revising it based on recent experiences. They've worked tirelessly to assist us in handling the issues we experienced and everyone I've spoken with in upper management and their legal department has been warm and helpful, and followed up without fail.
- My wife and I attended an investment seminar late in the summer of 2017 hosted by Mr. Scheiber. We ended up investing some of our money in a fixed indexed annuity. Let me first say that I blame myself for not doing my homework prior to investing in this company (American Equity Investment Life). I don't believe that Mr. Scheiber fairly represented all the investment options at that seminar and a subsequent private session. Upon receiving my first annual statement I learned that I had earned $0 for the year on my investment. In looking at the statement more closely I learned that Mr. Scheiber had 'guided' us into a monthly point-to-point option. We did initial that we agreed with this option but we did not fully understand how it worked. What I learned in a phone call to American Equity is that even though the market improved for our first year anniversary, we ended up in negative numbers because of how the monthly ptp is calculated. Any monthly increase is capped at 1.2% while monthly losses have no cap. So, by adding up the positives and negatives for the 12 months, the number comes out negative even though from day 1 to day 365 there was a net gain. Bottom line - avoid this company and this investment agent. When I called Mr. Scheiber to ask him why he directed us to this option without explaining the cap on monthly gains he stammered a bit and then said he would have to call me back because someone just walked into his office. No return call.
