Interview with Yashu Kapila - CEO at BugRaptors

Software testing and quality assurance are essential components of the software development lifecycle. With extensive experience and proven leadership, our guest has established BugRaptors as a premier provider of high-quality solutions.

The focus on client satisfaction and innovative approach to next-gen technologies and global methodologies made it possible to deliver superior quality outputs to a global clientele. We are excited to hear more about the journey and insights in the field from Yashu Kapila, CEO at BugRaptors.

Hello, Yashu! Welcome to TechBehemoths. Please tell us about yourself. Your childhood, education, and professional development.

This is Yashu Kapila, and I would like to define myself as a woman with a Never Give Up attitude. I have my roots from Punjab, India where I was born, brought up, and completed my bachelors and masters in computer applications.

After completing my education, I started my career as a QA consultant which eventually helped me to identify my passion for software testing.

Actually, I was just fascinated by the scope of innovation that QA industry held with the expanding agenda of digitalization. But still, I would like to call it all ‘serendipity’ as giving a push to my career with QA enabled me to identify the potential of QA and walk my journey to become the CEO of BugRaptors.

I gave a start to my career with QA. As I worked through various positions, I gained the necessary exposure on manual testing, automation testing, learning test environment configuration, test script migration, and other essential QA operations.

As I got more exposure and went towards managerial positions, I started taking command of managing key relationships with clients and explored various dimensions of testing and technology verticals. In 2016, I gathered all my exposure and learnings to start BugRaptors.

What inspired you to start BugRaptors, and how did you identify the need for quality-enabled solutions?

I believe there are things or places that are destined for you. It only needs you to reach the right starting point.

Ever since I started with QA, I quickly realized the potential it had and what it has to offer to complement the digital transformation goals. However, one thing that I realized with the expanding digital industry was the growing demand for development somewhere ignored the need for QA, which is vital for sustainable innovation.

I looked at it as an opportunity as I identified the need for quality assurance and software testing when it comes to creating more successful mobile, web, and enterprise solutions. Besides, it was my passion and knack for learning that pushed me to dive into the deepest depths of quality engineering world.

Moreover, I envisioned it as a market that targeted a global audience that needed access to technology which is functional, high-performing, secure, and sustainable. And therefore, I decided to work on all these goals for the people and businesses of the future with BugRaptors.

As the CEO of BugRaptors, please tell us more about the team and the work processes.

BugRaptors is a brand on a mission to revolutionize the world in all ways possible. Sticking to our agenda of “All ways of quality”, we ensure consistency and 100 percent positive output in operations, client collaborations, and the society.

We are a team of 200+ ISTQB certified testers who are dedicatedly working to improve the technology landscape for over 12 different industry verticals. More importantly, BugRaptors as a team always aim to showcase the true meaning of diversity and inclusion by being honest and transparent at all times.

Since we encourage the agenda of women leadership in the corporate sector, our 70 percent of top-level leadership involve women who are doing exceptional in marketing, operations, and quality assurance.

From manual to automation testing solutions, our team could handle all types of client requirements relating to functionality, performance, user acceptance, and every aspect of business software, web solution, or mobile applications.

How do you ensure the client satisfaction while managing a team of over 200 testers across multiple locations?

I believe the key to successful management is communication. From dealing with clients to staying in sync with your team, it is the quality of communication that decides your success.

At BugRaptors, we strictly adhere to healthy communication practices which include exchange of information within the team to complement the flow of operations. Besides, we actively tackle any follow-ups or queries shared by our clients to ensure any requirements or queries raised at the client’s end must be worked out immediately.

However, the entire process involves a dedicated focus on task prioritization, creating realistic plans, constant tracking, and resolving issues in parallel to avoid any disturbance to the workflow and deliveries. The process involves the use of various project management tools, operational methodologies, and the selection of an approach that can best suit the project, the client, and the team which is assigned to work on that particular project.

As someone with extensive experience in client relationship management, what do you believe are the key factors for building and maintaining successful long-term relationships with clients?

When it comes to building long-term relationships with clients, one must remember that clients are individuals too. They only want to be heard for their requirements and need their prospects to work on their requirements to meet their business objectives. Besides a few important factors that could help you yield quality relationship with clients include:

  • Understand your client requirements thoroughly
  • Building trust through empathy and communication
  • Gather customer feedback for rapid improvements
  • To be honest and consistent with your services

Could you explain your role in implementing the CMMI L5 v1.3 initiative at BugRaptors, and how it affected the company's operations and outcomes?

Actually, attaining the CMMI level 5 benchmark is never a one man’s effort. Achieving the highest rating out there needs you to be with the right team. It was the entire team of BugRaptors which is a division of Seasia group that worked on harnessing consistent success for the customers.

As the CEO of Bugraptors, I was constantly involved in ensuring the right path to development was worked on for every client project we fostered, in terms of quality.  From defining the path to quality assurance to test environments, I put together all my experience of working as operation head, release manager, presales manager, consultant to deliver quality-made products to customers. All in all, I feel my efforts added more value to the existing strategies and practices adopted by other people at the company taking us closer to the CMMI level 5 certification.

After all, in union, there is great strength.

What do you see as the biggest challenges facing the testing industry currently and how are BugRaptors adapting to meet these challenges?

The only challenge that the testing industry is facing is keeping up with the pace of innovation. Though software testing is essential to success of any product entering the market, most testing companies are still struggling to integrate advanced technologies like AI, ML, Blockchain, etc. Into their operations.

At BugRaptors, we constantly work at expanding our services with the integration of the latest tech-stack, right from test tools to use of frameworks and techniques. We are pursuing test automation technologies to leverage performance, usability, and other aspects of development. Besides, we are keeping an equal focus on our proprietary test automation technologies to complement mobile and web testing goals relating to advanced technologies like big data, cloud, IoT, etc.

Apart from this, we don’t miss incorporating new strategies and practices into our operations. We work on everything from agile practices to shift-left approach while progressing on our vision to enhance our service landscape and expanding our business footprints.

How do you envision BugRaptors evolving in the future and what steps are you taking to achieve that vision?

With BugRaptors, I am living the dream of creating a quality-driven tech environment. It brings me the satisfaction of delivering products and solutions that are made to meet the expectations of the end users. Therefore, we see evolution as everything that has potential to redefine the digital world.

From automation solutions to changing testing practices and introduction of modern tools, BugRaptors’ evolution will leave no stone unturned in terms of improved test journeys, streamlined development lifecycles, and convenience to the end users.

And to attain all these benchmarks, we are taking constant measures to progress. We have the confidence of creating highly advanced and industry-leading test frameworks for web and mobile testing. Moreover, our products and services are constantly analyzed and modified to deliver around 30 to 40 percent improved time to market to our clients.

Also, we promise some of the most effective market launches and deliveries with experience of serving various Fortune 500 brands and numerous SMEs. Above all, we always seek, achieve, and promise zero defect leakage assurance to our clients with continuous support on scalability and business resilience goals.

What do you like to do when you are not working?

When I am not working, I love to spend time with my family. Besides, I am an avid traveler who never misses any opportunity to go places.

I am extremely fond of nature and therefore I seek leisure pampering my home garden. Besides, I love to read books and explore the concepts of spirituality.

If you had the chance to go back in time, what is the one advice you would give to Yashu Kapila from 2013?

If I get a chance to go back in time to give any advice to my younger self, it would only be,

We control way less than we think we do

Defining operations, creating process are all part of chasing discipline. However, when you are working with people in your personal or professional life, you cannot always control the circumstances for you and for others.

Therefore, it is important that you must always give your best and embrace the returns, be it learnings that come to you in form of failures or success that you gain on your way to becoming a better version of yourself.

Thanks, Yashu for this insightful interview. Your story is truly inspiring. Good luck to you and the entire  BugRaptors team!
